Julie is an Emmy Award Winning Meteorologist and Reporter currently freelancing at KPIX CBS-5 in San Francisco.
From wildfires to floods to high winds, she is in her element when reporting live in severe weather. While a meteorologist at KCRA in Sacramento she did many of these live reports for The Weather Channel and NBC Weather Plus. In fact, she won an Emmy for her live reporting on local flooding. As a reporter Julie's stories range in topic from "Comic Book Investments" to the "Conflict in Kenya". She prides herself on enterprising... finding new angles to the same old story. Check out some examples under the New Demo & KPIX Stories link
She is also passionate about international journalism. Last year Julie traveled to Sierra Leone where she shot a series of stories titled "From Sacramento to Sierra Leone." She is currently in the process of turning those stories into a PBS special.
With a masters degree in online journalism, Julie prides herself on telling stories using various forms of media. She enjoys creating interactive platforms that combine broadcast and online elements. Platforms that allow each news consumer to explore the narrative as deeply as they choose. One of these online stories, "Surviving Kenya: Through His Lens" recently won the first ever Advanced Media Emmy Award.
While at KCRA, Julie co-hosted the Noon Show live from the Arden Fair Mall and was the unofficial co-anchor of the weekend morning news. Her interview and guest segments ranged from Fall fashion to Raiders football... from cooking segments to creepy crawly critters. Know as the in-house animal lover, Julie also hosted the weekly "Pet of the Week" segment with the SPCA... and even performed an interview or two with a snake around her neck.
Before Sacramento, Julie pulled triple duty at KGPE-CBS 47 in Fresno, CA. She was the weekend weather anchor, morning traffic anchor, and a feature reporter. Julie was also the voice of news & traffic each morning on the valley's Clear Channel radio stations.
A graduate of the University of Southern California Julie has a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism and a master's degree in online journalism. At her commencement ceremony, she was named graduate student of the year.
Julie studied broadcast meteorology at Mississippi StateUniversity. She received her meteorology credentials from the American Meteorological Society in 2008 officially designating her a broadcast meteorologist.
